Between July and September 2024, we undertook a comprehensive upgrade of our navigation equipment to enhance the safety and efficiency of our boat systems. This project involved replacement of several components, including the upgreade of our radar to the Quantum 2 Doppler radar doppler and an upgrade of our Multi-Function Display (MFD), to the Axiom+12RV.
We also added an Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder and VHF radio with CSR. The upgraded AIS system offers enhanced tracking capabilities and better integration with our other navigational tools, ensuring that we can not only monitor surrounding traffic effectively but also make our position clear to other vessels. The CSR upgrade allows us to transmit our coordinates in the event of an emergency.
We also upgraded the wind transducer, a key instrument for measuring wind speed and direction. Accurate wind data is crucial for optimizing sailing performance and ensuring the safety of the vessel, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
In addition to replacing the hardware, we built out the SeaTalkNg communication backbone, which serves as the underlying network infrastructure for all of our boat systems systems. This backbone facilitates seamless communication between all electronic devices on board.
Overall, this extensive upgrade project was aimed at enhancing our navigational capabilities, improving safety, and ensuring that our systems are equipped to handle the demands of offshore sailing. These upgrades reflect our commitment to safety at sea.
